Question

Growing up in India, Ayurvedic medicines were common place for a number of health issues. Since I became sexually active I've never lasted as long as I'd want to and have recently started looking for treatments.

Naturally, I first started researching for Ayurvedic medicines and found some evidence that it could help.

Should I try Ayurvedic medicine for premature ejaculation or are there better, alternative options?

Certain herbs used in a traditional form of Indian medicine, called Ayurvedic medicine, have been thought to offer some relief for premature ejaculation.

A few of the medicines commonly mentioned include:

  • Kamini Vidrawan Ras
  • Yauvanamrit Vati
  • Kaunch Beej

Some forms of Ayurvedic medicine have also been shown to offer some improvement with erectile dysfunction.

In 2017, a study of sexual medicine examined the effectiveness of Ayurvedic medicine for premature ejaculation.

The men included in the study, given Ayurvedic formulations, did have a slight increase in ejaculation times (nearly a minute more).

So, the right kind of Ayurvedic supplements may help you last a little longer, but you do have to watch out for low-quality formulas and side effects.

Safety and Side Effects

Some reported side effects from typical Ayurvedic herbs used for premature ejaculation include:

  • Stomach pain
  • Dizziness
  • Decreased sexual desire
  • Mild bodily pain

All of these can interfere with your sexual performance.

So, pay close attention to any ingredients used in Ayurvedic medicines if you decide to buy from a provider, consider discussing the supplement with your doctor, and watch out for any side effects after use.

Additionally, some brands and manufacturers of Ayurvedic medicines alter the natural formula with prescription-only medications to improve the claims of the supplement.

In 2016, the Australian government’s Department of Health issued a safety advisory for one such brand that could pose a serious risk to health.

Takeaways

Some Ayurvedic medicines have been shown to treat premature ejaculation, but more studies need to be conducted before conclusively stating that this is a safe treatment option.

There are other premature ejaculation treatments available today that have more concrete scientific evidence and provider better results.

You should vet the manufacturer very carefully to ensure the quality of the ingredients used.

As an adage, the traditional way of Ayurvedic medicine is about more than just the herbs alone.

For example, yoga is commonly recommended as part of treatment and has been shown to help with sexual performance.
