Sildenafil (Viagra®), Vardenafil (Levitra®), Tadalafil (Cialis®) for Premature Ejaculation

Some men are trying erectile dysfunction drugs for premature ejaculation. Although these ED drugs do not have an FDA-compliant indication for PE, the on-line pharmacies are pushing the idea because many men are desperate for a solution to have longer lasting sex. PDE5 inhibitors (the technology behind all of these ED drugs) are not effective at delaying ejaculation. They can, however, enable some men to sustain an erection after ejaculation, providing an opportunity to satisfy his partner. More commonly, PDE5 inhibitors help reduce the refractory period, the time it takes a man to regain his erection after ejaculation.

The most popular of these drugs in sildenafil, the generic form of Viagra. On-line pharmacies are also selling vardenafil, tadelafil and other forms of PDE5 inhibitors.

A 2005 study titled: "Efficacy of sildenafil citrate (Viagra) in men with premature ejaculation" in the Journal of Sexual Medicine had the following conclusions:

Although IELT and VTS-ELT were not significantly improved, sildenafil increased confidence, the perception of ejaculatory control, and overall sexual satisfaction, and decreased the refractory time to achieve a second erection after ejaculation in men with PE.

IELT is an abbreviation for "intravaginal ejaculation latency time", or the time from penetration to ejaculation.

VTS-ELT is an abbreviation for "vibrotactile stimulation ejaculatory latency time", or the time from stimulation by a mechanical vibrator to ejaculation

Leaders In Sexual Medicine Favor Fast-Acting SSRIs or Topical Medications

Leaders in sexual medicine are recommending two types of solutions for PE. One is a fast-acting anti-depressant (SSRI) such as Dapoxetine/Priligy. Increasingly, urologists are recommending a topical medication such as Promescent which much faster-acting (5-10 minutes) and has a much lower side effect profile than an SSRI. Dapoxetine / Priligy are not FDA approved.

Be careful of purchasing drugs on-line that do not come directly from the manufacturer.
